Sonita Alizada
Sonita Alizada was born in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. She was nearly sold into marriage twice at the ages of 10 and 16. She first came to prominence as an artist through her rap video “Daughters for Sale” which was produced and distributed after she escaped Afghanistan to Iran. The subject of the Sundance award-winning documentary “Sonita,” today she is a human rights activist, musician and Rhodes Scholar. She is a graduate of Bard College and a recipient of numerous honors including MTV Europe’s Generation Change Award and a Fulbright. Her memoir, THE DREAMS BOOK will be published by HarperCollins in fall 2025.
